This Week at The Races May 17/18th

VMS is excited to roll out a new weekly blog series! This Week at The Races highlights what our athletes have been up to. Working hard for the sake of working hard is a great virtue but EVERYONE wants to see it pay off on race day. With race season in full swing,  our recap this week includes everyone from the little dude at the kids tri all the way to a podium finish at Ironman.

Drew Heideman took overall at the BFAST sprint triathlon. Coming out of the water 2nd and hammering the bike, he took over first with his super fast run splint with a mile to go. Can your PT clinic do that?

Flint Brady went from a 146th place swim split to 14th after the bike. While the Texas road crew was trying to patch up the road surface that he TORE up, Flint was busy running himself to a 4th place with a 3:15:47 marathon. This Kona qualifying  09:27:14 Ironman finish is just what Flint does for fun as he ALREADY has a spot for Kona 2014 that he scored at IMFL. GO NAVY!

Katie Prather took 1st place in the 30-34 AG at the Turtle Crawl International Tri right in the middle of Ironman France build. Her husband also completed his first triathlon. Got to love a couple that trains and races together!

Nicole Magee took 2nd place in the novice division at the BFAST sprint. This was Nicole's first ever triathlon and she trains with juggling life as a Navy officer and raising 2 young kids.

Coach Shawn's son Coen and 1800 other kids raced at the Kids Triathlon and it was GREAT!!! He was fast enough to score some bling - 3rd place AG in X Class (expert class). In a Wattie Ink kit and a trucker hat the apple does not fall far from the tree

Dan Kowal raced BFAST back to back with Tomoka tri  , placing top 10 in both and winning his AG in BFAST. Dan is prepping for Ironman CDL and if the past weekend's are any indicator, he is coming in FIT!

Kerry Mowlam was spotted at the BFAST triathlon as well, just 2 weeks off St Croix 70.3.  Always the speedster, Kerry traded his ZOOT kit for Team Stellar  and most likely took time to dance with the volunteers on his way to an AG win!

Allie Norman  took 1st place Female at Duathlon long course nationals in Cary NC. She competed on a BORROWED TT bike and the majority of her hill training was done on a computrainer as Cary is a hilly and tough course. Way to kill it Allie!

Not pictured are Lee Lingo and Bradley Kuper Smith.  Bradley came up from Coral Gables to score 2nd OVERALL at the BFAST triathlon with a smoking fast 1:13:33.
Lee Lingo completed his 4th 100 mile RUN at the Keys 100. Way to tough it out and get it done Lee!!

Good luck to everyone racing this coming weekend.  Be safe and leave it all out there!!
