Week of May 19
Sorry this is so late. I was almost not going to send it but we have a BUNCH of the crew racing this weekend and some GREAT results from last weekend so…here it is.
We are up in the NC mountains in Asheville for vacation and some riding…
We love this area – the scenery, the terrain, the music, the people, the restaurants, it’s ALL amazing…and…the weather!!!
Yesterday we had one of the best riding days I can remember, literally PERFECT weather and then all of a sudden – REALLY bad!!!
I remember in Telluride 20 years ago a buddy of mine said, “You don’t mess with thunderstorms in the mountains. They are no joke.” He was right.
We have daily t-storms in FL and they are like a 3-4 on the scale…this one yesterday…8+.
It’s amazing how quickly ride ride went from “this is awesome”…to “oh sh!t…we’re not good.”
Lesson learned, double check the weather. Bring extra gear. Have a bailout plan and don’t be afraid to activate it.
Serious thanks to Drew and Bone for the rescue…there was no way the 3 of us could descend 17 miles soaking wet in the rain at 43 degree’s (no extra gear…just bike kits)…it was 70 when we started.

HUGE congrats to Flint Brady at Ironman Texas…Boots, Hats, Buckles and Bling…he went from 146th in swim to 14th to 4th…in with a 9:27 and some pro splits!!!
This was enough for a Hawaii slot but he already got his so…someone is happy with the roll down!!!
Congrats to the crew at the BFAS. Drew Heideman does what Drew Heideman does…WIN!!! Nice race and way to take it!!! The rest of the field came through with Brad Kuper Smith in 2nd OV,
Eric Lashway 3rd OV, Alex Brown 4th OV, 1st AG 20-24, Ryan Austin 7th OV, 1st AG 30-34, Kerry Mowlam 9th OV, 1st AG 45-49, Dan Kowal 12th OV, 1st AG 35-39, Brett Snyder 13th OV, 1st AG 50-54.
Congrats to Chris Roman, David Green, Andy Woods and Kevin Marasco at the Keys 100 – I heard there was the 2nd fastest ever women’s finish in like 14H…that is running8:00’s for 100 miles!!! WOW!!!
Congrats to Allie at the Nation Duathlon Championships…1st place in Age Group!!! She was 8th OV, 1st AG 25-29…Ah…yeah…NATIONAL CHAMP!!!! We know her!!! Congrats to Teale Beckenbach who came in 18th OV, 2nd AG 20-24…amazing day ladies!!!
Last but definitely NOT least…congrats to Coen (aka Bone) and the 1800 kids at the kids triathlon. It is a HUGE event and it runs really well. Bone raced in the X class (expert) and scored 3rd place in his Age Group…first time on the podium…love it…he was all smiles!!!

Good luck to Kevin Neal and the crew in Brazil. I love watching Kevin race…he is a grinder. He just puts his head down and GOES!!! He also gave me the best advice on IM execution ever…”Don’t go to sleep!!!” No joke…single best advice. Good luck Kevin…go get Ken!!!
Good luck to all the shaved leg tough guys and the Delafina girls at the State Crit this weekend. You guys did a BUNCH of work…now it is time to play. Taylor Phinney boys…Taylor Phinney!!!
Special shot out to my golden voiced musician triathlete friend turned cyclist…you would have torn it up…heal up and we’ll see you soon!!! Speedy recovery to Pete Loftis…you can win States next year!!!
