Coconut oil and oregano skin salve

On this week's episode with Florida Coastal Cooking, Dawn and I show you how to make a great salve using coconut oil and oregano. This time of year ,in the south especially, athletes are prone to the to the absolute most annoying athlete problem I can think of. Worse then bugs. Worse then heat and sun...... CHAFFING. The worst is you may think you have mastered every spot that may chaff and then you step into the shower and the reality hits you quick. YOU WERE WRONG. This simple salve speeds healing, keeps infections away and most of all stops the stinging.

Coconut oil is extremely versatile and can be used for just about anything. In this case we are relying  on its moisturizing and antibacterial qualities. Growing up in South Florida, I have been using coconut oil most of my life and I absolutely love it.  Make sure you are buying an unrefined virgin coconut oil.  Again, I would suggest Native Sun if you live in the area. Lou Ana is NOT an acceptable oil for ingesting or topical uses.

Studies have shown that oil of oregano is effective at killing bacteria, and could also help the immune system take action against viruses, fungi and parasites.

This salve mixes one ounce of coconut oil to 5 drops of oil of oregano. This recipe can also stand in for a natural hand sanitizer as well as deterring no-see-ums. As with all essential oils, if you are pregnant, breast feeding or have any underlining medical conditions please consult your doctor first
