"Ride this Weekend"-Shawn's weekly email June 2nd-8th

Guten Morgen from Mühlheim an der Donau

It is REALLY early here in Germany (4am) and I am up so I can get in a short 45 minute run before heading off to the airport and flying home.

I lost count of the number of times I have been here but it is definitely over 50.

The town is really small (2000 people) – think Mayberry RFD with a MUCH different accent.

It also sits in one of the prettiest areas I know, right in the Donau River valley with perfect hills for running, biking or just walking all around.

I ran every day this week and I am going again this morning as it is just the perfect place to commune with nature.

You don’t see anyone and you don’t hear anything except birds.  Really great!!!

Anyway…it’s nice here but I am also very thankful to be heading home as I miss the family and Shane gets home from 4 months in Bali tomorrow.

It also doesn’t hurt that I am in business class which is really a lot like a 12H spa day…yeah…it’s hard to travel so much J

Enough Fodor’s… on to the email…

Off the front (the Sassy Section J)

Saturday – leaving the house at 7am for a long ride…be home around 10:30am – t-run 30 minutes.

Sunday –  leaving the house at 6am for a long run (16M) be home around 8:15am.

Results –
Congrats to Holt and the crew at Alcatraz…Holt got to check off on of the top tier races in the triathletes bucket list at Escape from Alcatraz on Sunday.  This race and the venue is absolutely incredible. From the Pros to the age groupers, everyone loves this course.  The 1.5M swim from Alcatraz to shore starts with jumping into the cold pacific from a ferry and then navigating the currents to shore.  After a long run to T1, you head out on a VERY hilly 18M bike where the technical downhill sections don’t offer any relief from the “ups”.  After T2 the run is a combination of xTerra and sightseeing as you head toward the Golden Gate then over the hill to a sandy beach for a mile then up a sand ladder, through a tunnel and then finish.  It is really just THAT COOL!!!  Congrats to Holt…very nicely executed!!!
HUGE Congrats to Travis in the State Road Race.  I have said this before but to get on the podium in a cycling race at the top levels requires a ton of fitness acquired through LONG HOURS of training, suffering in the race to put yourself in the right position and then when you get there…you still need a little luck.  Travis has done all the work…made the right move and got nipped at the line for win but still ended up in 3rd place in the State Road Race.  That is AWESOME!!!  Congrats – all the hard work paid off.

Curtis and the rest of the crew raced on Sunday and rode hard in support of the Velobrew team.  No podium this time but hey…1st place State Champ in the Crit 2 weeks ago…it’s still a great start to the season.

Congrats to the Iron Butz – I saw one in person and one FB picture Dan laying on the floor…looks like it was a good day J

Racing this weekend –

Good luck to Todd aka “PB” and the crew at the 70.3 Boise.  I’m not sure but I think the local Lyndon might be on the course too...good luck!!!

Good luck to Stephen and the crew at Eagleman 70.3.
